First, the thing you came for

Procreate does not run on any Galaxy tablet, in any version, at any price. It is published for iPad and nothing else — the full evidence is on the Android page. Nothing below is a workaround for that; it is what to do instead.

What the S Pen actually reports

This matters because it sets the ceiling on what any app can do. Samsung specifies 4,096 levels of pressure across the S Pen range, with the Creator Edition tuned for tilt in particular. The tablet pen is not a Bluetooth accessory that happens to draw — the digitiser under the glass powers and tracks it, which is why it has no battery, never needs charging, and keeps working when you have forgotten it exists.

Two practical consequences that rarely make it into comparisons:

• It is in the box. On the Tab S line the pen ships with the tablet. On the iPad side the stylus is a separate purchase, and on the current Apple Pencil that is a substantial line of its own.
• Tilt is not universal. Pressure is read by essentially every Android drawing app. Tilt is read by fewer, and used well by fewer still — which is why the same pen can feel expressive in one app and inert in another.

What Samsung puts on the tablet for you

Recent Galaxy Tab S models — the S11 line and several before it — include up to six months free of Clip Studio Paint for Galaxy. Clip Studio is a serious professional tool and this is a real thing of value, so take it.

Read the shape of it clearly, though: it is a trial, not a licence. When the six months end you move onto a monthly or annual plan, and on Android tablets that plan is what lets you save and export your work. Budget for the renewal at the start rather than discovering it in month seven with a folder of files you cannot get out.

Which apps use the hardware properly

• Infinite Painter and Clip Studio Paint both read tilt and give you real control over how a brush responds. They are the two that will not feel like a downgrade.
• ibis Paint X handles pressure well and is among the most widely installed drawing apps on Play, which is worth something on its own — most Android tutorials you find will be for it.
• Sketchbook is the one we would reach for to sketch quickly, and its toolset stops well short of compositing.
• Krita's Android build still calls itself a beta that is not ready for real work. Superb on desktop; not the same product here.

How we handle the pen

Stated plainly because this is our page and you should be able to check it: Apex Olira reads tilt and orientation off the same platform pointer event on Android that it reads off an iPad, converts both to the same internal tilt vector, and feeds that to the same brush engine. There is no reduced Android path — a Galaxy Tab and an iPad Pro are running identical stroke code, and tilt shading, grain response and per-brush pressure curves behave the same on both.
